OUR GRADUATE – OUR SUCCESS

Our graduates are our true and authentic showcase, and their achievements fill us with great pride and joy. We hope that their accomplishments will serve as an inspiration for both current and future students of the Academy of Silesia. We sincerely thank you for the positive energy we receive from you.

We are pleased to announce that our graduate, Michał Swaryczewski, has won the Audience Award in an online vote on the A&B portal for his outstanding master’s diploma project titled “Conceptual Design of the Digital Archive of Civilizational Achievements in Katowice (Civilization Ark)”, which he defended in 2022 at the Faculty of Architecture, Construction and Applied Arts of the Academy of Silesia. His innovative project was awarded the Rector’s Distinction of the Academy of Silesia and nominated for the prestigious EU Mies Award – Young Talent 2023 by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe. In addition, it was featured in the “Architektura & Biznes” magazine. The supervisor of the awarded project was Kinga Palus, PhD, Eng., Arch.

This futuristic project presents a concept of a modern underground archive designed to protect the achievements of civilization from various threats, both anthropogenic and natural. Michał aims to create a kind of “black box” of humanity, capable of surviving global catastrophes and enabling the reconstruction of civilization after a potential crisis.

It is worth noting that the projects awarded in the 13th edition of the “Best Diploma – Architecture” competition address key issues of relationships – neighbourhood, community, and interactions between the existing urban fabric and new solutions. The authors demonstrate great sensitivity and, through in-depth analysis, strive for thoughtful and innovative designs.

Michał is an architect and graphic designer who combines a visionary approach with innovation and a bold, unconventional aesthetic. His goal is to create architecture that goes beyond established patterns. His designs stand out for their unique combination of functionality, artistic sensitivity, and a deep dialogue with the urban context. Michał believes that architecture should be more than just a utilitarian form – it should be a work of art that evokes emotions, tells stories, and inspires reflection.
