Take Care of Your Health! Free Cervical Cancer Screening in the Center of Zabrze

Zadbaj o swoje zdrowie! Profilaktyczne badania cytologiczne w centrum Zabrza

On April 14, the Cytobus – a mobile health prevention center – will arrive at Teatralny Square, next to the Nowy Theatre. Women from Zabrze will be able to undergo free screening tests for cervical cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.

The Cytobus, which will be stationed at Teatralny Square on April 14, is part of a project implemented by the Katowice Oncology Center entitled “Modern technologies in the fight against cancer. Ensuring comprehensive oncological care in the Silesian Voivodeship by improving the quality and accessibility of cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.”

Screening tests for cervical cancer and HPV infection will be performed by qualified midwives. No prior registration is required to participate in the examinations – it is sufficient to present an identity card or another document confirming identity. Test results will be available online, and detailed instructions regarding access to the results will be provided by the midwives in the Cytobus.

Cytology is a fundamental screening test for cervical cancer prevention, which is one of the most common cancers among women in Poland. It is recommended that cytological screening be performed at least every three years if previous results were normal and the woman has no risk factors for developing cervical cancer. The main risk factors include age, number of childbirths, number of sexual partners, and cigarette smoking.

Testing for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection also plays a significant role in cervical cancer prevention, as HPV contributes to the development of cancers of the cervix, oral cavity, and male reproductive organs. The greatest risk associated with HPV infection lies in the possibility of being an asymptomatic carrier and unknowingly transmitting the virus to others. The most effective methods of preventing infection with oncogenic HPV types are vaccination and regular cytological screening.

Prevention and regular screening are the best actions that women of all ages can take to protect their health.

“We warmly encourage participation in the preventive screening offered in our Cytobus and taking care of one’s health, which is priceless,” says Agnieszka Rupniewska, Mayor of Zabrze.

The Cytobus will be available on April 14 at Teatralny Square, next to the Nowy Theatre, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
All examinations are free of charge.
